An interview with MIH’s Property Assistant Levi O’Brien

Property Assistant Interview. At MIH we like to take a deeper dive into why our employees are interested in property management. This month we’re talking to Levi O’Brien, our property assistant to find out more!

What made you interested in property management?

Before I started working at MIH, I had just finished college and was working in retail, I didn’t know what I wanted to do or what path I wanted to take whether it was finding a full time job in a particular industry or going to University. I joined MIH knowing nothing about property management however, I did have an interest in real estate and wanted to learn new things in the property industry.

After working at MIH for around 3 months, my interest in property management increased as I was meeting new people and I started to build relationships with both clients and contractors, which I enjoyed and still enjoy doing.

What has the change been like from being an apprentice to becoming an MIH employee?

My workload has definitely got bigger and I have been trusted to work independently across my portfolio. However, the dynamic in the office still remained the same and I have built better working relationships with my colleagues since.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my job would be that we are always busy whether it is responding to a query or attending a site to carry out our block inspections. I feel that in property management there is always something to do, which keeps us busy and ultimately speeds up the day.

What’s the most challenging aspect of your job and what skills have you learned?

When working in property management, you never know what to expect or who you are going to meet. It can be quite a challenge to ensure that the owners of the flats understand the role of us as managing agents and the responsibilities that they hold as flat owners. However, after dealing with this for the past 10 months I feel that I have definitely become a more patient person and my communication skills have improved.

What is the management like at MIH?

At MIH we have all built good working relationships with each other as we are a small team, the management team are all really caring and supportive.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

In the next 5 years, I would like to be working in a growing and successful company as a Senior Property Manager, with the assistance of the MIH team I am confident that I can get there.
