This month we put the focus on MIH team member, Adam.
Property Manager Adam joined MIH in 2021 Since then he has become a firm favourite in the office with his sunny disposition and positive outlook.
Since graduating from the University of York, I have only ever worked in the London based property management industry. Originally from Manchester, I have found a deep appreciation for living in London and now can’t imagine living anywhere else!
What initially attracted me to MIH was its dedicated focus on property management, rather than treating it as an additional service to an estate agency. Property management and estate agency are distinct industries, each governed by separate bodies and regulations. Conflating the two can often lead to inefficiencies and misunderstandings, so I appreciate MIH’s specialised approach and commitment to excellence in property management.
As an MIH property manager Adam oversees the following:
A recent challenge in the property management industry has been adapting to the new Building Safety Act 2022, which introduced significant changes to health and safety standards in residential blocks. Ensuring compliance has required engaging with competent professionals and contractors to review my properties, and robust budgeting with discussions with my clients to fund any new statutory requirements or remedial works.
At MIH, as part of the Building Safety Team, I have attended training courses and seminars to thoroughly understand the new regulations. This has enabled me to ensure all my clients are compliant and their residents remain safe.
One success recently was that a Westminster Health & Safety officer had informed me that we required a set of surveys on one of my properties that would cost approximately £18,000. Through reviewing the site and the available information with a health & safety and fire risk specialist, we came to the conclusion that that these additional surveys were not required at the building and the council agreed with our reasoning, preventing significant additional costs to our client.
Adam first became an Associate of TPI (The Property Institute – previously known as IRPM). Recognised throughout the property management industry as the benchmark in sector standards, these qualifications aim to ensure the highest quality professional property management skills.
He has recently advanced to Membership level 4 qualification to become accredited as a Member of TPI (MTPI). These qualifications are regulated by the Ofqual government body which oversee professional standards in the UK ensuring effective and consistent levels of practice.
At MIH, no two days are quite the same. While I often start with a plan for the day, emergencies can arise that require immediate attention, completely changing my schedule! I strive to balance my time between the office and on-site visits to ensure a consistent presence at my properties, addressing issues promptly and maintaining high standards of management.
Being quite practically minded, I take great satisfaction in knowing that my work makes a genuine positive impact on the lives of residents. At MIH, I am fortunate to be part of a dedicated team that genuinely enjoys their work and supports one another, making a significant difference in our ability to provide excellent service.
Alongside his professional development at MIH, Adam enjoys playing his guitar and going to the cinema as often as he can in his spare time. He is known for his sense of humour and keen interest in history.
This summer Adam is looking forward to marrying his fiancée at a family ceremony in a Grade II listed Tudor manor. We wish Adam every happiness with his future bride and predict a glowing future in the Property Management arena.
